The Beginnings Of A New Album…

faders

Finally found a moment today to sit down and conceptualize the next Slighter album. I’ve had in the back of my mind this idea of what I want to do next, but it had to take a back seat for some months now while studio/remix commitments took up most of my time. Getting these initial ideas out on paper is a big step in putting myself on track to write again.

I struggled with the idea of making more albums last Fall. After writing “Our Own End” I felt a shift in my approach to making music. I felt like I needed to evolve out of this dark-industrial realm that I thought adequately  portrayed whatever style Slighter was supposed to be… I almost didn’t see a future for Slighter, and that I should shift to something completely new. However when “Our Own End” got picked up by System, and people seemed to be accepting of the “lighter” side of Slighter, I figured a shift in style might not be so hard to get people behind.

The reoccurring theme I get from people about my music is how it invokes the visual, that there is an inherent cinematic feel to it, which has become the jumping off point for this third album.  I can almost imagine in my mind exactly what this record will be, and this time, I don’t want to do it alone.

I’m hoping I will be able to get a few musicians and vocalists on board to make this happen the way I want it to evolve. Reaching out to new people I haven’t worked with, and hopefully finding one or two female vocalists to help as well, will breathe new life into this project.

As this process begins I will be documenting what I can here on this blog, as well as photographic evidence over on my Tumblr.

If my timeline works out, I should be able to start recording new demos as early as June, and hoping to finish by the Fall.

Exciting times here!
